Pacific Ocean island Vanuatu creates new List ‘A’ record

Vanuatu, a small island nation in the Pacific Ocean situated to the east of Australia, created a List ‘A’ record in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

At the Cricket World Cup Challenge League Group A match, which is one of the three steps away from making it to the 2023 CWC in India, Vanuatu defeated hosts Malaysia by 13 runs to set the record for defending the lowest total in a List ‘A’ match.

Vanuatu were bundled out for 65 in 25.1 overs with four batsman touching double digits and the highest being 12 by No. 7 Nalin Nipiko. In return, Vanuatu bowled out Malaysia for 52 in 21.4 overs to emerge victors by 13 runs.

Vanuatu’s new-ball operators Patrick Matautaava (10-3-19-5) and Apolinaire Stephen (6-0-30-3) were the chief destroyers.

Vanuatu’s total of 65 being defended successfully beat the previous mark of 76 by English county Middlesex against Northamptonshire in 1972.
